In the standard format for the Irish Railway Pictorial series, the book starts with a concise history of the LMS(NCC). The mix of photos in the book is good with a majority of locomotives and rolling stock, however, photos of IH interest are well represented in chapters on Broad Gauge Routes and Narrow Gauge Routes. There are separate sections on the effect of war on the railway (York Road station and works being badly affected in Nazi bombing raids) and the Bleach Green reconstruction in the 1930s. Dundalk Square Crossing and even the North Wall in Dublin get a look in, due to ownership of the DN&GR and the L&NWR station at the latter.
